Part 3: Pre-Class Practice Tests

You are scheduled for an endoscopy. To ensure the procedure is safe and accurate, your stomach must be empty. Therefore, fasting is a critical requirement. You must not eat or drink anything, including water, for at least six hours prior to your appointment. We advise that you arrange for someone to accompany you home, as the sedation given will affect your ability to drive. The main advantage of this procedure is its ability to provide a direct visual analysis of your upper gastrointestinal tract, which is essential for an accurate diagnosis. Please do not assume you can bend these rules; failure to fast will result in the cancellation of your procedure.

Task: Greet the patient, explain the CT scan procedure, explain the purpose of the contrast dye, address concerns about side effects, and confirm the patient gives their consent.
Writing Task:
You are the nurse from the speaking scenario. After the conversation, write a short entry in the patient’s electronic health record. Document that you have explained the procedure and the use of contrast dye, and that the patient has provided verbal consent.
