Part 3: Pre-Class Practice Tests

Reading Task:

Excerpt from a Patient Information Leaflet: Metformin

Metformin is a common medication used to manage type 2 diabetes. The main benefit is its ability to lower your blood sugar levels. Your doctor will prescribe a starting dosage, which may be adjusted over time. For this medication to be effective, adherence to the prescribed regimen is essential. Common side effects include nausea or an upset stomach, which often improve over time. A rare but serious side effect is lactic acidosis. If you experience unusual muscle pain, severe drowsiness, or difficulty breathing, you must stop taking Metformin and seek immediate medical attention. We advise you to communicate any and all side effects to your doctor.
